NANDANA
Nandana hand block printing process is dyeing craft of hand block printing. Nandana design is combination of four traditional motifs. The fabrics decorated with this prints were traditionally worn by the tribes residing in tribal areas of Western Madhya Pradesh and adjoining region of Gujarat & Rajasthan
Nandana is a 16 steps long, time consuming and labor intensive art of fabric dyeing and printing. The progressive society and change of tastes has challenged this craft in the region. Still the craft is practiced by a few artisans in the area. Almost 100 families of Tarapur and Umedpura village of Javad tehsil were involved in the craft. Now only 2-3 families are doing traditional hand block printing. Craftsmen #Banwari ji Jhariya and #Pawan ji Jhariya a sixth generation of ‘chhipa’ family are still practicing the art.
The blocks of Nandana prints are limited in terms of design variety. This has been reaffirmed by Shri Jhariya ji. Mainly 4 types of designs are used in Nandana print namely, “Mirch”,”Champakali”, “Amba” & “Jalam” buta. Later on one more design “Dholamaru” introduce in this Craft.
